Listings

What a listing needs before you spend a penny on ads

Ads make a weak listing fail faster. These are the things that come first, and why the order matters more than the budget.

On this page

In short

  • Advertising multiplies whatever the listing already does, in both directions.
  • The fixes that matter most are the ones nobody can see from the front of the page.
  • A listing that converts badly gets more expensive to advertise over time, not less.

What has to be true before you advertise?

The title has to say what the product is in the words a buyer would use. The images have to answer the questions a buyer asks before they trust it. The fields behind the listing have to be filled in properly.

Ads against a repaired listing buy data. Ads against a broken one buy nothing.

Why does the order matter?

Because spend against a broken listing teaches you nothing. You cannot tell whether the campaign failed or the page did.
